The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) congratulates the SES Hospital Universitario de Caldas team for its outstanding commitment to preventing new fractures and promoting the comprehensive recovery of patients with osteoporosis and fragility fractures. This recognition reflects the fulfilment of high-quality standards in the study, management, follow-up and intervention processes of older people with fragility fractures.

Since 2015, SES Hospital Universitario de Caldas, located in Manizales, Colombia, has established a comprehensive model of care for older people with fragility fractures. Led by Dr Edgar Eduardo Castro, a specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics, and nurse Jessica Ramirez, the team has been awarded the GOLD Standard in the IOF's 'Capture the Fracture®' programme. This achievement positions the hospital as the first gold centre nationally, with a score of 93% in the required standards.

Dr Edgar Castro shared: "We have provided care to more than 400 inpatients and outpatient follow-up to 800 people per year. Our goal is to provide excellent care, from emergency to discharge, to improve quality of life and reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with osteoporosis".

Dr Castro is also Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Association of Osteoporosis and Mineral Metabolism (ACOMM), who highlighted the inspiration that this achievement represents for the health community: "Your achievements inspire us and motivate us to achieve excellence in each of our health care institutions. Congratulations, a GOLD badge for a golden human and professional team!”

About Capture The Fracture®

Capture the Fracture® (CTF) is a multi-stakeholder initiative, led by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), to facilitate the implementation of Post-Fracture Care Coordination Programmes, such as Fracture Coordination Units (FLS), for secondary fracture prevention. The CTF initiative, which celebrated its 10th year in 2022, aims to drive changes at local and regional levels to prioritise secondary fracture prevention. It sets global best practice standards and provides recognition for FLSs through its Best Practice Framework (BPF). The CTF programme also provides an essential mentorship programme, resources and documentation to promote the prioritisation of secondary fracture prevention and drive the implementation and quality improvement of FLSs. Currently, the CTF network includes 933 FLSs in 57 countries worldwide. FLSs are invited to apply for free assessment and recognition through the online Best Practice Framework application platform on the CTF website. https://www.capturethefracture.org #CaptureTheFracture
